We are grateful for the generosity of the Guild of Our Lady of Providence for providing Pernet, along with four other recipients, backpacks filled with school supplies for our youth embarking on a new school year. Thank you for your continued support! In front, youths Ben and Logan.
In back - Joanne Mallozzi, Sheilah Dooley, Jo Luikey, Katherine Davitt, Sr. Pat Murphy, Meg Kursonis, and Catherine Doran On Thursday, August 3rd, State and City Representatives along with the Central Massachusetts Youth Jobs Coalition and YouthWorks came to visit the Green Island Gardens (GIG) program at Pernet Family Health Service. The Youth put together a presentation and garden tour speaking to the goals of the GIG program, and their experiences thus far. For many of them, this is their first job. The Green Island Gardens’ mission is to beautify the retail district and residential area. In the Green Island neighborhood, GIG shows beauty and pride in the neighborhood and engages the community in gardening. Pernet's youth employees spoke about developing leadership skills, communication and collaboration, connecting with and helping the community, time management and learning how to use garden tools. They also spoke about the bonds they are making at their positions. One of the Youth Leaders, who participated in the program last year, spoke to how she has been developing new leadership skills this year by managing others. Among those who attended were State Senator Harriet Chandler, State. Rep’s Dan Donahue and Mary Keefe, Frank Kartheiser, Kate Campanelli, Tony Poti, Judy Kirk and others. Enjoy the following photos from the visit, tour, and fun! Youth from the Green Island Gardens Summer Jobs Program had fun today screen printing tee shirts with the Green Island Gardens logo on them! Check out their works of art below!
