Worcester – Tonight Pernet Family Health Service will offer special recognition and thanks to John Smithhisler, former CEO of Saint Vincent Hospital in Worcester and past Pernet Board member, for his outstanding $10,000 Challenge grant to Pernet.

Mr. Smithhisler joins approximately 80 major donors, Pernet Board members, volunteers, friends, and staff for a night of appreciation in Worcester, where Pernet will offer thanks to him, other major donors who met his Challenge grant with generous gifts to the agency, and long-time volunteers and staff.

“We are grateful for John’s outstanding support of Pernet, and the urgent health and social service needs of low-income families in Worcester,” said John McCabe, past Pernet Board Chair and long standing volunteer. “His great support will help us to grow and serve the many people who come to us in need.”

Since 1968, Pernet [pur-nay] Family Health Service has been a stabilizing force in Worcester’s Green Island and Vernon Hill neighborhoods, where we strengthen nearly 400 vulnerable, low-income families each year with emergency assistance, wholesome food, maternal and child home health care, and family support. We serve 11,000 people annually.

Pernet Family Health Service, a 501 c 3 non-profit organization, is a Department of Public Health-certified home health agency, providing hands-on, in-home care for mothers, their infants and children, as well as center-based food, emergency, and social services for men, women, youth, and children. We also provide both in-home and center-based services for children with, or at-risk for, developmental delays.

Worcester – On Sunday, May 4th, Pernet Family Health Service, Inc. is proud to join Project Bread’s Walk for Hunger in Boston. Pernet, which has been a stabilizing force in Worcester’s Green Island and Vernon Hill neighborhoods since 1968, strengthens nearly 400 vulnerable, low-income families each year with wholesome donated food, emergency assistance, maternal and child home health care, fathers programs, and family support.

Each May, Pernet's team joins more 40,000 people to walk all or part of a 20-mile course through Greater Boston, earning pledges they collect to support the movement to end hunger in our state.

"Together, we raise awareness of the reality of hunger in our local neighborhoods," says Sheilah Dooley, Pernet's Executive Director. "The effort makes a powerful statement about our shared commitment to help people in need, and, importantly, we're walking to raise $1,600 in funds for much-needed food programs - programs that interrupt the cycle of food insecurity in our communities, programs that provide hope to families."

Pernet Family Health Service, a 501 c 3 non-profit organization, is a Department of Public Health-certified home health agency, providing hands-on, in-home care for mothers, their infants and children, as well as center-based food, emergency, and social services for 11,000 men, women, youth, and children each year. We also provide both in-home and center-based services for children with, or at-risk for, developmental delays.

Those interested can register to walk, or volunteer, at www.projectbread.org/register. Pernet's team page is http://support.projectbread.org/site/TR/Walk/General?team_id=74272&pg=team&fr_id=1230
