Pernet, which has been a stabilizing force in Worcester’s Green Island and Vernon Hill neighborhoods since 1968, strengthens nearly 400 vulnerable, low-income families each year with wholesome donated food, emergency assistance, maternal and child home health care, fathers programs, and family support. Each May, Pernet's team joins more 40,000 people to walk all or part of a 20-mile course through Greater Boston, earning pledges they collect to support the movement to end hunger in our state. "Together, we raise awareness of the reality of hunger in our local neighborhoods," says Sheilah Dooley, Pernet's Executive Director. "The effort makes a powerful statement about our shared commitment to help people in need, and, importantly, we're walking to raise $1,600 in funds for much-needed food programs - programs that interrupt the cycle of food insecurity in our communities, programs that provide hope to families."
