![]() Recently, Chris Nelson, Pernet Family Support Director; Denise Rowan, Parent Aide; and Paul Mina, Father's Group Facilitator, attended the 18th annual New England Fathering Conference in Groton, Connecticut. The two and a half day conference featured keynote speakers, and a variety of workshops focused on Fatherhood. A workshop entitled, "A Trauma Informed Approach to Promoting Healthy Fatherhood," explored the impact trauma has on boys in their childhood, and male socialization further compounds this trauma, and how these factors present challenges for men as they enter Fatherhood. The overall conference was reported to re-energize the attendees. The conference served as a great reminder of the critical role engaging fathers has on the work we do at Pernet to strengthen the whole family unit. We are excited that our staff members were able to join the conference, and look forward to apply the learnings in our programs!
