This month we would like to share a success from Pernet’s Parent Aide Program and how it helped a father rebuild his relationship with his 3-year-old child. The Parent Aide Program supports families involved with the Department of Children and Families by working with them on household management, parenting skills, and accessing community resources. When the Parent Aide first began working with the father, he had been granted one hour supervised visits with the child. Both of the child’s parents had a history of drug addiction. The father has remained clean and sober for six years now, and since working with the Parent Aide, has come a long way. He was granted unsupervised visits and is now able to take the child swimming and to the beach! Despite transportation obstacles, he is always there and on time!
