Position: Parent Aide
Department: Family Support 
Reports to: Director of Family Support 
Shift: Daytime; occasional evenings and weekends
Hours: Part-time or Full-time

Job Summary:
Provides a variety of in-home parenting services to families whose children are at risk for or are experiencing abuse and neglect. Provides services according to a Service Agreement developed with the family at intake and reviewed periodically. Responsible for parent education and support, teaching, advocacy, supportive case management and participating in regular in-service training.


Essential Responsibilities:
• Develop a trusting relationship with the family in accordance with professional standards of the agency in order to facilitate meeting the goals of the Service Agreement 
• Develop a Service Agreement with the family which is based on identified needs and contains measurable goals and objectives, and time sequence for meeting the goals and objectives; reviews the Service Agreement periodically with the family 
• Visits the family in their homes in order to carry out the Service Agreement 
• Educates the family in matters of parenting, nutrition, health care, child care skills, household management, budgeting, and safety 
• Act as a role model and support person to promote positive child interaction, attachment, and parenting 
• Advocates for the family within the community health and social service system in order to promote coordination of and access to needed services 
• Encourages the family to participate in Pernet’s social support activities, including the Family and Community Development program and community social activities including the Holiday Program and Family Outings 
• Encourages the family members to develop self responsibility by linking them with community resources for health, social services, education, and employment 
• When necessary provide transportation and/or accompany families to appointments, assist with translating, and obtaining child care 
• Document information regarding visits, conferences, and all contacts on behalf of the family in the client’s record 
• Coordinates utilization reviews with DCF and Family Networks staff 
• Submits Service Delivery to supervisor at the end of each month 
• Participates in team, agency, and individual case conferences, as well as community agency meetings as directed by supervisor

Additional Responsibilities
• Attends all staff meetings and trainings unless excused by supervisor 
• Uses all means of agency communication including email, mail (mailbox), and phone (voicemail) to remain well informed of agency activities and client needs 
• Maintains confidentiality according to agency policy 
• Meets with supervisor regularly 

Minimum Requirements:
• Mature person with a Bachelor’s degree in human services or related field, or 2-4 years of comparable experiences in human services. 
• Ability to establish a supportive, non-judgmental rapport with others 
• Strongly Preferred bi-lingual (English/Spanish) 
• Massachusetts driver’s license and car 
• Should be able to work as a part of a team
